Rich Boomer. Poor Boomer.
What is the difference between a Rich Boomer and a Poor Boomer?
I have the good fortune of meeting with hundreds of boomers from all walks of life as I do my live training programs, coaching and mentoring. A couple of days ago I met with two different baby boomers and the contrast provided me with somewhat of an epiphony. The first boomer that I met with was struggling in all respects. He had no money in the bank, he was stressed out, his health was in trouble and his relationship with his wife was falling apart. It was obvious to me that I was in the presence of what could be called a poor boomer. The next person I spent some time with later that day was the complete opposite. She told me about how money just kept coming in week after week, more easily than they she had ever thought possible. Her health was the best it had ever been. Her relationships were thriving. She was passionate, abundant and in a total state of flow, gratitude and joy. It was clear that I was now in the presence of a rich boomer. Here is what I realised. There are some clear difference in the way that Rich and Poor boomers Think, Do and who they are Being. A Rich Boomer has developed skills and habits to live a life rich in health, happiness and financial abundance. A Rich Boomer is disciplined and understands the quote by Jim Rohn, "We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons." Most people choose regret as it is easier at the time than choosing discipline but what they don't realise is that by choosing discipline in the short term, their lives become much easier in the long term. A Rich Boomer has formed disciplines and has developed their mindset for years. They are constantly learning and improving. It is the way they 'think'. It is the way they 'do' and the way they 'be'. It is the questions they ask, their 'can do' attitude and their ability to live in the present moment. Let's take a closer look at some of these differences:
Poor Boomer | Rich Boomer | THINKING | I can’t afford it | How can I afford it? | I don’t care about money | Money is an empowering tool | My employer is responsible for paying me | I take full responsibility for my results and the financial future of my family | I can enjoy my life in 3-10 years time once I work hard and make the money back then retire | I will enjoy my life now, make cash in a whole new way, and relax, have fun and travel at the same time. | I need to work for money | My money needs to work for me | Working will solve my cash flow problem | Financial Education – taking new Action will solve my cash flow problems | I am unaware of my financial issues and unprepared to deal with them | I am well aware of my financial situation and am well prepared to do deal with it | | Rich people are always stressed | Making money will relieve many stresses in my life | | Making money is hard and I don't know how | Making money is easy and I am very resourceful | | I don't need much money to get by | When I have money I can help so many people | DOING | Work 5 days a week in a JOB | Invest 1 – 3 days a week | Have a 2 day weekend | Have a 4 – 6 day weekend | Money capped per hours worked | Money not capped by hours worked | Could lose my job at any moment | Can’t lose my job | I have to go to office | Can do it from my laptop at home, or anywhere in the world as long as I have internet connection | I pay all of my bills and if there’s some left over I will pay myself last | I always pay myself first | I will work hard for a few years and wait and see how it end up | I have a clear plan in place to get me to my freedom day | | I would rather watch TV than learn new skills or attend a seminar | I would rather spend my time learning new skills and improving myself than sitting in front of a TV | | It's too cold to get up early and exercise | I love starting the day with some exercise, it leaves me feeling energetic for the whole day | BEING | Disempowered | Empowered | Constant fear of loss of income | Feeling of confidence, peace and power, no matter what happens | Always waiting for the weekend to arrive | Everyday feels like the weekend | Fear of failure | Excited about the future | | Worried and Stressed | Relaxed and living in the present moment |
So if I had to throw you in one of those categories which would it be? Rich or Poor?
